DMEGC Solar fulfils new VDE quality standard for solar modules

Back to list

DMEGC Solar is pleased to announce that the requirements of VDE SPEC 90038 have been successfully met for the N-type based Infinity and Infinity RT module series. DMEGC Solar is making a positive contribution to the development of the solar industry.

The recently published VDE SPEC 90038 is generating a great deal of interest in the German-speaking photovoltaic (PV) industry. This new standard, developed as part of the VDE SPEC process, was created by a dedicated project group with the aim of creating a comprehensive standard for solar module quality - the Solar Module Quality Standard (SMQS).

VDE SPEC 90038 encourages broad participation and aims to establish a standardised quality criterion for module quality testing. Interest in this standard is expected to grow not only in Germany, but also in other EU countries. VDE SPEC 90038 could therefore also serve as a guideline at EU level to set new standards for quality testing and promote the durability of solar modules. With falling module purchase prices and increasing cost pressure on manufacturers, this standard could make a significant contribution to strengthening the industry.

VDE SPEC 90038 consists of three parts. The first part defines the requirements for the manufacture of solar modules and the necessary documentation. The second part, VDE SPEC 90038-2, explains the required long-term durability tests. These relate to measurement and test procedures to ensure that the performance of the modules is guaranteed at all times.

In 2023, DMEGC Solar worked with TÜV Rheinland to conduct extended stress tests in accordance with the rigorous IEC TS 63209-1:2021 standard. In 2024, the modules also underwent the TÜV Rheinland Extended Bankability Protocol in accordance with 2 PfG 2940/06.23, including specific long-term tests such as the Light and Elevated Temperature Induced Degradation (LETID) and UV Induced Degradation (UVID) tests. The entire seven-stage test programme was carried out over a period of six months.

In the light of the new VDE Spec 90038, these long-term stress tests can be found in the second section, while the third section describes the production process conditions that will ensure consistently high module quality over the long term.

This new quality standard provides manufacturers, purchasers, insurers, investors and, most importantly, operators of PV systems with a reliable guide to module quality. At the same time, it increases confidence in the performance and durability of solar modules, which are at the heart of every PV system.

With 44 years of experience in industry-leading technology, R&D, manufacturing, quality management and excellent service, DMEGC Solar provides highly efficient, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing solar modules, and various application solutions to global customers. Through the continuous integration of sustainability goals in our value chain, DMEGC Solar has established itself as a responsible player in the industry and once again DMEGC entered the top ten in module shipments, with cumulative global shipments exceeding 45GW in the first half year of 2024.
